Twilight Forest
Builder Temple Psi
Builder Temple Psi manifests in the
twilight realm between existence and oblivion, its ethereal architecture
both physical and spectral. Located in a secluded grove between the
Wraithwood and the River of Souls, this temple defies the normal laws of
death itself - while all other structures in the Afterplane bear the
mark of decay, Psi remains pristine and untouched by the realm's
corrupting influence. Its portal chamber pulses with an energy signature
distinct from its material counterparts, leading Elyndrian scholars to
theorize that the Builders had mastered not just interstellar travel,
but movement between planes of existence. The souls of the dead give the
temple a wide berth, as if sensing its otherworldly nature even in this
realm of spirits.
The Fields of Mourning
A vast expanse of barren land where
the souls of the lost wander aimlessly, the Fields of Mourning are a
place of eternal sorrow and despair. The air is thick with the cries of
the damned, and the ground is littered with the remnants of forgotten
lives.
The Hidden Temple
The Hidden Temple is a temple built deep
inside a ghostly mountain range. It is guarded by two lesser demons at
the entrance. The main entrance leads to a cathedral-style room with two
halls that wrap around the main entrance. The halls are lined with
smaller rooms. At the back of the hall is a set of stairs leading down
to a level that is heavily guarded by roaming patrols of demons. The
level holds the private quarters of the higher-up demons.
The Pool of Life
The Pool of Life is a lake in the Twilight
Forest that is made up of the pooled-up energy from all beings that die
and come to the Afterplane. It is speculated that it plays a part in the
resurrection spells cast by healers. The lake and its surrounding forest
are protected by Momma Dee, a living humanoid who sold her services to
someone or something in exchange for a steep price.
The River of Souls
A dark and murky river that flows through
the Twilight Forest, the River of Souls is said to be the boundary
between the land of the living and the land of the dead. Those who wish
to cross the river must pay a toll to the ferryman, Charon, or risk
being trapped in the Afterplane forever.
The Shadowgate
The Shadowgate Clearing is the entry and exit
point to the Afterplane for travelers from the living world. The
Shadowgate itself is a stone archway that looks identical to its
counterpart in the living world. Travelers often don't realize they've
crossed into the land of the dead until they notice the strange, foggy
atmosphere and the ghostly apparitions that float around.
The Wraithwood
A spectral forest of twisted trees and
glowing fungi, the Wraithwood is said to be haunted by the tormented
souls of those who died with unfinished business. The air is thick with
sorrow and regret, and the whispers of the dead can be heard on the
wind.
